Description

Here is a fairly bright object in constellation Cygnus the Swan that is being created by a massive star (type: Wolf-Rayet) that is about to go supernova.  It is casting off prodigious amounts of material and ionizing those gasses with its strong UV radiation.  This is all embedded in the local interstellar medium, which is also being excited, partially by the star's radiation.  The deep black circle near center is intriguing - what causes that?  This version of HOO puts a small percentage of S-light in the red channel, in combination with H-light.  The green and blue channels are predominantly O-light, but a small percentage of S-light is added into both of those channels as well.  The Soap Bubble planetary nebula is seen lower right - Ju1 or PN Go75.5+01.7.  H and O data were from New Mexico, S data from Colorado.
